We are a team of 16 talented and motivated Honors students from Eindhoven University of Technology. The team is supervised by ir. A.T.J.R. (Roy) Cobbenhagen, ir. Alex Andriën, and dr. Duarte Guerreiro Tomé Antunes. Team members represent a wide range of interests, origin and education programs including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Psychology & Technology. These international individuals have formed an interdisciplinary team with the common interest in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
The team was originally founded in 2015 as a part of the Honors program within Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), primarily to educate highly achieving students on the variety of aspects of a drone ranging from hardware to controller design. The team has then, later in 2016, turned into a project that aims at creating drone shows with three drones flying autonomously.
A first demonstration of one drone flying autonomously has been given at the Entrepreneural Experience Event organized by TMC on the 19th of April, 2018. More of these demonstrations, also expanding on the number of drones, will be given in the coming year.
Currently, the team is divided into four functional groups to tackle different challenges with regard to the drone show. Together with the partner, Avular, the team is expecting to provide a visually appealing drone show, designed by fellow students, here at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2019.
The team’s efforts are not limited to a show at the Eindhoven University of Technology, of course. After successfully organizing and performing light shows with drones in Eindhoven, the team has the ambition to go further by organizing shows for other events as well, possibly adding more drones, effects and lights. Companies such as Intel have already proven that large groups of drones can be orchestrated such that they deliver an awesome show. Firefly hopes to accomplish something similar in the future!
